Lifebridge's Day of Fasting

Lifebridge serves a community that knows a lot about hunger, about not knowing where the next meal might come from, about having to depend on other people’s good will for their food and shelter, especially in these difficult times. Please consider participating in Lifebridge’s third annual Day of Fasting.

On Good Friday, April 10, 2009, your family will join hundreds of other North Shore families to reflect with children, grandchildren, and each other on the experience of doing without. You’ll calculate together the cost saving of having just soup and bread and use the enclosed envelope to donate the savings to support the vulnerable men and women served by Lifebridge.

Our Food Programs

Our food programs are among our fastest growing and include:

  • Harvest of Hope Food Pantry: Open two days a week, families and individuals receive ingredients for 6-9 nutritious meals. Each month over 1600 individuals in Salem and surrounding areas are served through the Food Pantry.
  • Break Bread Together Community Meals Program: Three meals are served every day to shelter residents and anyone in the Salem area that is hungry. Over 300 meals a day (110,000 annually) are served.

Lifebridge’s food programs budget is $155,000. Government sources only cover 1/3 of these expenses. The remaining support comes from individuals in our community and vital fundraising campaigns like the Day of Fasting.

* Lifebridge's Outreach Worker and Harvest of Hope Food Pantry are funded in part by the City of Salem Department of Planning & Community Development, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
