Volunteering With Us

Margaret Mead once said "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

At Lifebridge we see proof of this every evening in our kitchen where church, business, and social groups gather to prepare and serve meals to Lifebridge clients and hungry members of the community. We see it too among the dedicated volunteers who sort and shelve donated items in our busy thrift store or who contribute their expertise and passion in other ways to help us achieve our goal of ending homelessness.

Lifebridge has a small but committed staff of 21 employees, yet we are fortunate to have 400 members of the community helping us throughout the year. Here are opportunities we have to volunteer with us this fall and winter:

Preparing Meals
Groups can volunteer to cook a meal, lunch or dinner, once a month or even once a year. We have the following open slots for dinner in 2010:

June 5, 11, 12, 30
July 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 31
August 4, 7, 13
September 4, 6, 10, 11, 29

In the "Second Chance" Thrift Store
Help during store hours or to sort and price items
Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Facilitating Workshops
To help our clients achieve self-sufficiency we offer a variety of supplemental programs—such as women’s group, anger management, AA—but there is so much more we could be doing to expand the horizons of our homeless clients. We would like to offer other kinds of activities—whether it be crafting or creative writing, singing or sailing—that will enhance the day-to-day lives of clients. Volunteers are needed to prepare and deliver single session or multi-week activity programs that are suitable for our transitory population and accessible for all skill levels. Volunteers with a background working with homeless and/or mentally ill adults are preferred.
